Director, Center for Mathematics, Science and Technology (CeMaST)
CeMaST (http://www.cemast.ilstu.edu/) promotes excellence in education and research in STEM-based disciplines so that students, pre-K - Ph.D., can thrive in a technological world. The Center aims for national visibility and to enhance its positive, high profile across campus. The primary purposes of the Center are to:
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate with expertise in science education, mathematics education, engineering education, technology education, or related area. Applicants must qualify for a tenure-stream or tenured faculty position at Illinois State University. Teaching experience, demonstrated scholarship in the improvement of education, successful experience in obtaining and administering nationally-funded projects, and possession of excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director is responsible for strategic planning leading to national visibility for the Center; initiating/sustaining/coordinating positive, high-profile STEM programs with university departments and colleges as well as with off-campus schools and educational agencies; acquisition of external funding; and Center administration and staff supervision. Through CeMaST, the successful candidate will be expected to support projects that involve interdisciplinary teams and to provide assistance for grant writing, project management, and mentoring of faculty who seek external resources. The Director leads a team of Associate Directors that represents the STEM disciplines. The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Graduate Studies, Research, and International Education.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The compensation is competitive and will be commensurate with the expertise and experience of the appointee. It is a 12-month salaried position.
THE UNIVERSITY: Illinois State University, the first public university in the state, enrolls more than 17,600 undergraduate students and 2,400 graduate students. Illinois State is a Carnegie Intensive doctoral granting institution that offers Ph.D.s in a number of disciplines including Biology, Nursing, and Mathematics Education, and an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction through which students can specialize in science and technology education.
