The National College of Education of National-Louis University is pleased to announce its search for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Secondary Education for its Master of Arts in Teaching Program and solicits nominations and expressions of interest. The position requires an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction or in a content discipline, preferably in the social sciences; experience in teaching at the middle or high school level; an active research agenda and research-based knowledge of teaching and learning. Candidates with experience in urban environments and schools, grant writing, and using technology to enhance student learning are preferred. Faculty in the college are expected to be involved with partner schools. The position is based in the Chicago area and requires travel to our five Chicago area campuses.
Responsibilities for the faculty position include teaching graduate courses in general methods for secondary teachers; content methods, preferably in social studies; the student teaching seminar; student advising, and program coordination. The faculty member will also participate in the work of the Secondary Education Department in the preparation for NCATE accreditation.
The Secondary Education Program at National-Louis University is designed for aspiring middle and secondary school teachers. Constructivist philosophy has guided the program's development, coursework, materials, and instructional methods. We want our students to examine learning and learners in a way that will inform their instructional practices.
